The gorgeous city of Fuengirola is located on the Costa del Sol, in the Province of Malaga. This means that it enjoys wide and long beaches, being a touristic attraction for anybody that wishes to visit Spain. In the old days, the city was known as Suel or Suhayl, the Sohail Castle being one of the rare remaining of the early Phoenician settlements in the area. Today, Fuengirola is a much-appreciated touristic destination, due to its 8 km of soft sand beaches. Another attraction of the city is a Moorish fortress, built here since the medieval times.

Fuengirola’s seven beaches are named Carvajal, Torreblanca, Los Boliches-Las Gaviotas (equipped for disabled), San Francisco, Fuengirola, Santa Amalia and Ejido-Castillo.
If you choose Fuengirola for a long-term rental, make sure you visit the Castillo Sohail, a Moorish fortress built on top of an older Roman fortress. The remains of the Castillo date back to the caliphate of Abdurrahman III, who ordered the construction of the fortress in the year 956 AD.
There are also several Roman ruins to explore; for example, Finca del Secretario, dating back to somewhere between the I and V century, is an important archaeological site comprising a Roman salting factory and a thermal station complete with mosaics and two praefurnium – the ovens used to warm up the thermal pools.
