Benidorm is a 70,000-inhabitant costal town in the province of Alicante, on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. It has been a popular tourist destination since the beginning of the last century; however, tourism boomed in the 1950s, when it became famous among Spaniards coming from the inland, in particular from Madrid. Nowadays, Benidorm is famous for its hotel and tourism industry and for the beautiful beaches and old town. The tourism trend ultimately shifted in favour of foreigners, which now surpass by number the Spanish tourists.
